Traditional Yoga & Science
Om & Namaste. A warm welcome to my website! Please consider subscribing to my Newsletter and regularly visiting my Free Resources section as well as my Classes and Workshops sections, all updated on a regular basis.
My teaching follows the Yoga tradition of Kaivalyadhama, the oldest scientific Yoga institute in the world and a founding member of IYA (Indian Yoga Association).
Kaivalyadhama teaches the undiluted principles of traditional Ashtanga Yoga by Maharishi Patanjali, the revered Yogic seer of the 8th century, all anchored in traditional & authoritative Yogic texts studied and researched by philisophico-literary experts since 1924.
I aim at sharing these practices (validated time and time again over thousands of years) and what I continue to learn – always a student, always a beginner – in a clear, respectful, humble and sincere fashion (but not serious or rigid) – and with a big smile too.
Plus, one of the most important tennets of Yoga is Ahimsa, nonviolence or non-harming towards oneself and others (in intention, thoughts, words and actions) and the first of the yamas (ethical principles) in Maharishi Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, hence our practice should reflect that too.
Please consider coming to my classes and workshops or contacting me to inquire about private lessons, to allow you to experience the positive, deep and beneficial effects of these millenial practices in your life.
"Yoga is the journey of the Self, through the Self, to the Self."

Pranayama, Kriyas & Asanas
Pranayama is the fourth limb of the eight-limbed traditional Ashtanga Yoga method of Patanjali, the 8th century Yogic seer who authored the Yoga Sutras.
Pranayama is defined as the Yogic control of the breath and has innumerable scientifically proven physio-phsychological benefits.
Shat (or Shatkarma) Kriyas are practices designed to purify the body by ridding it of toxins and waste.
Asanas (third limb) are Yogic postures also with plenty of extensively researched physio-psychological benefits.

The practices I share are rooted in traditional authoritative texts as well as more than one-hundred (100) years of scholarly research of all of these reputable manuscripts as well as rigorous scientific experiments on the prescribed proper Yogic practices.
The Kaivalyadhama lineage is defined by three texts authored by Swami Kuvalayananda, a visionary Yogi but also scientist, researcher, author, inventor and poet – and founder of Kaivalyadhama:

Sergio A. Tanus - Short Bio
I am humbled, honoured and privileged to be one of only other twenty-nine (29) students, practitioners and teachers from around the world who are certified and have completed Kaivalyadhama’s Pranayama Three-Year Teacher Training (PTT) in Lonavala, Maharastra, India, encompassing 1,500 hours – on top of additional intensive Anushtans and workshops with Shri. Sudhir Tiwari.
I took my first steps onto the realm of Yoga in 2000 in Brisbane, Australia – by the hand of an Indian friend, medical doctor and fellow MBA (Master of Business Administration) student.
In 2004, I began a regular practice of Asanas, combined with some very ocassional Kriyas and some non-regular sessions of Pranayama and Meditation. Fast foward to the present.
I first met Shri. Sudhir Tiwari, the eldest son of Shri. Dr. Om Prakash Tiwari (one of the world’s leading authorities on Pranayama and one of only six (6) direct disciples of Swami Kuvalayananda, founder of Kaivalyadhama) in 2020 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and have since been studying and practising under his guidance.
Ultimately, my goal is, as per Shri Sudhir Tiwari’s statement “to present Yoga not just as Asanas but as an experiential practice, encompassing (but not limited to) Yamas, Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama & Meditational Techniques, Mantra Yoga and Techniques of Ishwar Pranidhana of Patanjali.”
As well as a holistic, progressive and scientific method – validated over thousands of years time and time again – to integrate one’s personality and transform one’s body, mind and spirit to help us become better human beings.
